On my birthday (July 2002), a group of us went on the London Eye, which was fun.
This is just after "take off", looking through the outside of the wheel at Westminster:
Looking north over the river - you should be able to see the Queen's Tower (at Imperial College) if you look closely:
This would be a better view of Westminster (houses of Parliament/Big Ben) except for the rain:

Looking down towards the river (effectively a close-up of the bottom of the previous photo) at Charing Cross station and the Hungerford Bridge (I think):
